P365 Ramjet Compatibility: 3.1-Inch Barrels, XMacro Comp Slides and More

Hi y’all! I want to answer a frequently asked question we get on the phone regarding 3.1-inch P365 barrel length slides and Radian Ramjet combinations.

The modularity of the SIG P365 platform is one of its biggest advantages, but with several P365 variants now available, determining which slides, barrels, recoil systems, and compensators are compatible can get confusing.

For this guide, we're focusing specifically on 3.1-inch barrel-length P365 configurations. There are now longer 3.7-inch and 4.3-inch P365 setups as well, but simply having a component designed for a 3.1-inch barrel does not mean it will work with every 3.1-inch P365 slide.

Which P365 Slides Work With a 3.1-Inch Barrel?

There are two primary P365 slide configurations that work with a true 3.1-inch barrel:

• Standard P365 / P365X slide

• P365 XMacro Comp slide

However, there is an important distinction.

The P365 XMacro Comp slide can only accommodate a barrel with a true overall length of 3.1 inches. Any barrel that extends beyond the 3.1-inch muzzle position — including barrels with extended threads or a compensator shoulder — will not work correctly in an XMacro Comp slide.

The reason is the location of the slide's front barrel lockup. The XMacro Comp's integrated compensator chamber is designed around the 3.1-inch barrel configuration.

You cannot install a barrel longer than 3.1 inches into an XMacro Comp slide.

This is especially important when considering the Radian Ramjet.

P365 Barrel and Slide History

Understanding how the P365 platform evolved makes the compatibility differences much easier to understand.

When the original SIG P365 was introduced, it featured a 3.1-inch barrel. The barrel extended slightly beyond the front of the slide.

SIG later introduced the P365XL, which moved to a 3.7-inch barrel and longer slide configuration.

The platform eventually expanded again with the introduction of the P365 XMacro, now commonly referred to as the XMacro Comp.

The XMacro Comp uses a 3.1-inch barrel, but it combines that barrel with a longer slide and recoil spring system based around the 3.7-inch XMacro configuration.

Rather than moving the front barrel lockup forward to match the longer slide, SIG retained the same general front lockup location used by the 3.1-inch P365.

The additional slide length is instead used to create the integrated compensator chamber.

That design decision is the key to understanding why certain 3.1-inch barrels are compatible with the XMacro Comp while others aren't.

Why Can't I Use a 3.1-Inch Radian Ramjet in an XMacro Comp Slide?

This is one of the most common questions we receive.

The confusion is understandable because both the XMacro Comp and the Radian P365 Ramjet are associated with a 3.1-inch barrel configuration.

However, the actual barrel dimensions and lockup locations are different.

A standard P365 slide supports the barrel near the muzzle. The XMacro Comp slide, on the other hand, retains the 3.1-inch barrel lockup while extending farther forward to create the integrated compensator chamber.

The Radian Ramjet combination introduces another important difference.

The 3.1-inch Radian Ramjet setup uses a barrel that extends beyond the nominal 3.1-inch barrel length to accommodate the threadless compensator.

That additional barrel length is what creates the compatibility problem.

The XMacro Comp slide is designed around a barrel that terminates at the 3.1-inch muzzle position. A barrel that extends beyond that location cannot properly interface with the XMacro Comp's integrated compensator chamber.

In other words:

"3.1-inch barrel" does not always mean the same thing when comparing different P365 components.

The actual barrel dimensions and the location of the slide's front barrel lockup matter just as much as the advertised barrel length. 

What Parts Work With a 3.1-Inch P365 Ramjet?

If you're looking to run a Radian Ramjet combination for the 3.1-inch P365 platform, you need to verify the exact P365 model and slide configuration before purchasing parts.

For the P365/P365X 3.1-inch configuration, the appropriate short slide is required.

If you've already modified your P365, don't simply rely on the model name. Instead, look at the relationship between the slide length and barrel length.

A useful rule of thumb is:

If the slide extends beyond the 3.1-inch barrel muzzle, that slide configuration may not be compatible with a Ramjet setup that requires the barrel to extend beyond the standard 3.1-inch muzzle position.

This is why identifying the exact slide configuration is critical before ordering a barrel or compensator.

Can I Use a 3.7-Inch Radian Ramjet on an XMacro Comp Slide?

No. This is another common point of confusion. The P365 XMacro Comp slide is approximately the same overall length as a 3.7-inch P365XL/XMacro slide, but that does not mean it accepts a 3.7-inch barrel.

The critical measurement is the location of the barrel lockup.

The XMacro Comp's barrel lockup remains positioned for the 3.1-inch barrel configuration.

Attempting to install a 3.7-inch barrel into an XMacro Comp slide will cause the barrel to extend into the integrated compensator chamber rather than properly aligning with the slide's intended lockup geometry.

Therefore, you cannot simply turn an XMacro Comp into a 3.7-inch barrel configuration by installing a longer barrel.

The slide was designed around a fundamentally different barrel and compensator configuration.

The Difference Between a 3.1-Inch Barrel and a 3.1-Inch Setup

This distinction is particularly important when shopping for aftermarket P365 components.

A manufacturer may describe a component as being intended for a 3.1-inch P365, but that doesn't necessarily mean the barrel itself has a true overall length of exactly 3.1 inches.

A barrel can be marketed for a 3.1-inch P365 configuration while extending beyond the traditional 3.1-inch muzzle location to accommodate a compensator.

That's exactly where the compatibility issue with the XMacro Comp comes into play.

The XMacro Comp requires a barrel that terminates at the true 3.1-inch muzzle location.

A barrel designed to extend beyond that point for an external compensator is a different configuration, even if it is marketed as a 3.1-inch P365 barrel.

Why P365 Slide and Barrel Compatibility Matters

The SIG P365 platform is highly modular, but that modularity doesn't mean every P365 component is interchangeable.

Before purchasing a barrel, slide, recoil spring, or compensator, verify:

• Exact P365 model

• Slide configuration

• Actual barrel length

• Barrel lockup location

• Whether the barrel extends beyond the slide

• Whether the barrel is designed for an external or integrated compensator

• Recoil spring configuration

• Compensator compatibility

This is particularly important when building a customized P365 because mixing components based solely on their advertised barrel length can lead to compatibility issues.

Final Thoughts on P365 Ramjet and XMacro Comp Compatibility

The different configurations of the SIG P365 platform can be confusing, especially as SIG and aftermarket manufacturers continue to introduce new slide and barrel options.

The biggest takeaway from this guide is simple:

For an XMacro Comp build, you need a barrel with a true overall length of 3.1 inches.

A barrel that is marketed for a 3.1-inch P365 but extends beyond the 3.1-inch muzzle position for an external compensator — such as certain Ramjet configurations — is not automatically compatible with an XMacro Comp slide.

The XMacro Comp's barrel lockup and integrated compensator chamber are specifically designed around the standard 3.1-inch barrel configuration.
